Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Registered and non-Registered Massage Therapist?
Well technically, there is no such thing as a "non-registered Massage Therapist" in BC. You legally are not allowed to call yourself a "Massage Therapist" in BC if you are not registered. Massage Therapy is only regulated in BC, Ontario, Newfoundland & Labrador, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island (PEI). This means in those provinces, when you see an RMT, you know you are getting someone who went through extensive training and assessment to prove they can provide safe and effective massage therapy. To keep our registration we are required to do continuing education courses bi-annually, have insurance and maintain our first aid training.
What should I do or avoid after getting my massage?
I would avoid rigorous exercise after a massage, although some light exercise like a walk or yoga may feel nice. A nice warm Epsom salt bath may feel good as well but it is important to drink plenty of water if you are going to do this and drink extra water the day of, and the day after your massage, to rehydrate your body. If you happen to get sore after your treatment you can apply a covered ice pack or cold cloth to the affected area for a few minutes to calm it down and ease pain.
Do I have to take off all my clothes?
Absolutely not! Dress down to what is comfortable for you. I've gotten pretty good at working through clothes when necessary. Most people find it comfortable to dress down to their underwear or even naked, but it is not necessary. Either way you will always be fully covered and I will only undrape the area I'm treating.
How do I know how much my extended benefit plan covers?
For your protection, we are not able to see your full benefit plan coverage. We are only able to check eligibility and submit claims on a case-by-base basis. When you receive your benefit plan booklet or member card, there should be a phone number that you can call to confirm your total coverage.
Do you accept tips?
I appreciate the thought, but do not accept tips. Our profession is working to get more respect and recognition in the medical field and accepting tips would be considered unethical.
Do you take debit or credit cards?
Absolutely!
Do you have Gift Cards?
Yes I do! They are now available online here.
Do I need a doctors referral to see you?
You do not need a doctors referral to see a Massage Therapist, although check to see if your extended benefit plan requires a doctors referral for coverage.
Do you do prenatal massage?
Yes I do! I even have these amazing maternity cushions that you are guaranteed to love!
